Tier 2 General Visa

Tier 2 General VisaThe Tier 2 General Visa is a UK immigration route for skilled workers who have been sponsored by a UK employer to fill a gap in their workforce. This visa category requires you to have a job offer along with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from a company or business that is a UK licensed sponsor. If the company willing to sponsor you does not have a license, it will first have to apply for a sponsorship license before they can issue you a CoS.

If you want to apply for immigration under the Tier 2 General Visa category, Milestone Solicitors can help you with your application and handle all your queries. Our dedicated team of immigration lawyers have extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of UK immigration rules to assist you in preparing your visa application and ensuring that you meet all the requirements of the Home Office.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for the Tier 2 General Visa

To apply for a Tier 2 General Visa, you must:

  • Have a valid CoS reference number
  • Have an acceptable level of proficiency in the English language
  • Have been offered an appropriate salary, i.e. you must be paid the appropriate rate for the skilled work you are offered or at least £30,000 per year – whichever is higher
  • Have £945 in savings in a recognised bank account for 90 days
  • Meet additional requirements if switching from a Tier 4 visa

If your sponsor is A-rated or fully approved and they have mentioned on your CoS that no benefits will be provided to you during your stay in the UK, you are exempt from meeting the savings requirement.

The length of stay can be up to 5 years or it can be up to one month of the timeframe that has been stated on your CoS. Once you have lived and worked in the UK for 5 years, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) to get permanent residency. After that, you can go for UK naturalisation to acquire British citizenship as well.
